This section is dedicated to the crafting professions, that are tailoring, blacksmithing, leatherworking and engineering.

As you probably already know, professions are not exactly identical in terms of profitability in Wow. Well, these 4 are clearly the poor relations of professions and won’t have you earn gold easily nor efficiently.
Especially engineering which is clearly the worst off profession…

Therefore, we will only give you a few ideas and advices you can apply since there is no real efficient way to get rich with them, as far as we know.

However, there is one exception that is related to your level of gaming. Indeed, if you are a player cleaning out high level raids, you will be able to make the most of this using very high level epic equipments. Provided you are fortunate enough to loot the matching bosses :).

Farm orbs while cleaning out dungeons, store them and you will easily find some players, with combos, ready to pay you a commission between 2g and 3,000g. Demand for this is high, so you can really make yourself a good deal of gold this way.

And if you qualify as a daredevil, you can even craft the equipment and post it on the AH. However, this is not something I recommend since there is a real risk associated of not being able to sell it. Especially when a new raid tier is coming up!

What these professions have in common, in reselling items or enhancements you crafted with them, is the ingredients price management. As always, you need to pay a very close watch on your crafting costs and your resale odds. The difference between them represents your profit and has to be enough.

It is not uncommon to find ingredients sold for more than items or enhancements. So stay alert!

Once more, it all depends on your server and its current activity.

I recommend you use Auctionator to monitor exchange prices and to buy ingredients. You can also get some help from the website AhSpy to check out sale volumes and from the website Wowhead to get equipments sorted by professions.

And finally, keep yourself up-to-date on raids and equipments modifications via one of the many news sites related to WoW.

Now, let’s explore a few leads, specific to each profession.

The main resources to monitor with this profession are the clothes. Embersilk, of course, but Netherweave or Frostweave as well from which you can create bags. These bags are an easy sale to equip alts and banks for many rerolls.

Do not expect huge profits but it’s worth monitoring these markets.

The other important resources are the volatiles as you can use your Dreamcloth CD with them once a week.

With Dreamcloth, you can craft threads (leg enchantment) or even high level bagd. My advice for reselling Dreamcloth: preferably rely on its market price (Auctioneer) and be patient. We already noted that prices vastly vary so, by being patient, you will increase your chance of selling it for a good price and consequently your profit margin.

Of course, if you own a HL pattern, carefully store your Dreamcloth so you can craft this equipment. You will get even more this way.

Finally, there is another way to make gold: cloth farming. However, this kind of farming is less efficient than farming with gathering professions.
If you are still tempted with this adventure, use Dugi addon to spot the best locations and get yourself some Potion of Treasure Finding to complete your collection.

With these two professions, you don’t have much choice…

Either you own some HL recipes and you can comfortably earn gold by crafting the associated epic equipments.

Or you specialize for the enhancement market with items like Belt Buckles, Core Armor Kits, Weapon Chains and Leg Armors.

In the latter case, similarly to tailoring, it is essential you stay on the top of your crafting cost and potential sale revenue to ensure real and adequate profits.

Use Auctionator and Ahspy to shop for your ingredients. Then resell enhancements using Auctioneer at market price sweating it out to maximize profits.

Engineering and gold?

Well… what can I say?…

It’s probably the worst profession from this standpoint. There are hardly any reliable way to make gold with it. Even reselling Choppers is very complex and risky as demand remains low while cost price is very high.

We will have to follow up with this profession in the next expansion, MOP, since press releases tend to indicate that engineering will become more attractive in the future.
